Mom Life: Tips and Tricks for Surviving (and Loving) the Chaos

Hey Mama, I see you and you are doing awesome! Becoming a mom is one of the most transformative and beautiful experiences in life. It’s a journey filled with joy, challenges, sleepless nights, and moments that will take your breath away. Whether you're holding your baby for the first time or navigating the early weeks of motherhood, here are some tips to help you through this incredible journey.

1. Embrace the New Normal

The arrival of that sweet bundle of joy brings a new routine and lifestyle. It’s a HUGE life change that does not come with a “how too” manual. Be patient with yourself as you figure it all out. Your home, routine, and even your relationships will change. Its ok to feel overwhelmed at times, you just birthed a whole human and you are learning to take on a whole new role. You are incredible, your body is incredible, moms are incredible!

2. Prioritize Self-Care

Taking care of a newborn can be all-consuming, but it’s super important to remember to take care of yourself too. You deserve it!

  • Rest When You Can: Sleep deprivation is no joke, so nap when you need to nap, the chores can wait. Seriously, they will be there later!

  • Eat Well: Nutritious meals will keep your energy levels up and help you feel like a human. Snack often and keep it healthy!

  • Ask for Help: Don’t hesitate to ask family or friends for support, whether it’s babysitting, cooking, or just a shoulder to lean on. Remember, most people that love you are overjoyed for you and want to be included in your village. Let them help and watch you thrive in this new role!

  • Move Your Body: A little movement can go a long way in boosting your mood and energy. A short walk, some gentle stretches, or whatever your body is up for can make a huge difference.

3. Trust Your Instincts

Every baby is different, and as a new mom, you’ll quickly become the expert on your baby. Trust your instincts when it comes to your baby’s needs. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t hesitate to seek advice from a pediatrician or a trusted healthcare professional.

4. Establish a Routine

While it might be challenging initially, establishing a routine can bring a sense of normalcy to your life. Here are a few routine tips:

  • Feeding: Try to establish regular feeding times that suit both you and your baby. You will begin to anticipate when your baby is hungry based off of sublet ques that are unique to them.

  • Sleeping: Create a bedtime routine to help your baby (and you) sleep better. Incorporate things that you love into the routine like: bathtime, storytime, rocking and nursing to sleep. Remember at baby can not be too spoiled, they’re babies!

  • Activities: Incorporate playtime and gentle activities like walks to stimulate your baby’s development. Outdoor time even when they are very little helps them get necessary Vitamin D and stimulates all their senses.

5. Connect with Other Moms

Finding a tribe of fellow moms can be a game-changer. Whether you join local mom groups or connect on social media, sharing your journey with others who are in the same boat can give you amazing advice and a sense of camaraderie.

6. Manage Expectations

Don’t get caught up in comparing yourself to others or striving to be the perfect mom. Remember, there’s no such thing as perfect parenting. Focus on what’s best for you and your baby, and be gentle with yourself when things don’t go exactly as you expected. You’ve never done this before. Whether it’s your first baby, baby number 2 or 3, its ALL new.

7. Enjoy the Moments

Amid the chaos and exhaustion, don’t forget to enjoy the special moments. The first smile, the tiny fingers holding yours, and the peaceful moments of your baby sleeping in your arms are precious. Be present and remember these moments are fleeting, they won’t be this tiny forever!

8. Educate Yourself

Take time to learn about your baby’s growth and development. There are countless resources available, from books and blogs (from trusted experts) to classes and seminars. Always consult with healthcare professionals to ensure you’re getting accurate advice.

9. Prepare for Milestones

Your baby will reach numerous milestones in their first year. Be ready for these exciting changes:

  • Rolling Over (4-6 months): This marks the beginning of mobility and independence.

  • Sitting Up (6-8 months): Enables the baby to interact with their environment from a new perspective.

  • Crawling (7-10 months): Represents a major step towards exploration and movement.

  • Standing and Walking (9-12 months): These milestones show increasing strength and coordination.

  • First Words: Many babies start to babble around 4-6 months and may say their first words by their first birthday.

10. Celebrate Your Achievements

Remember to celebrate your achievements! Being a Mom is HARD. Whether it’s mastering breastfeeding, surviving a night of tears, or simply making it through another day, acknowledge your hard work and dedication. You are doing an incredible job!

Motherhood is a journey like no other, filled with highs and lows, laughter and tears. Cherish each moment and take pride in the wonderful job you’re doing. Welcome to this beautiful new chapter of your life.
